When I think ‘good family friendly restaurant’, I always think of the ones where my child was not bored, most of the time that has to go further than a coloring page and crayons. In addition, a good view is always a happy bonus and the food, well, good food is simply a must!
Here are some of our favorite places to visit in summer with the whole family:
Nestled in-between the scenic Elandskloof and Winterhoek Mountains, this little piece of heaven will capture your heart; symptoms may include extreme relaxation, profusely refusing to go home, and word choices to the effect of “WOWWOWWOW” . It is a 1 hour drive from Cape Town, but well worth the time as there is a lot of other places to stop along the way I.e Alpaca farm and Spice route are among the favorites. Val du Charron also hosts a beautiful hotel and Spa…Just saying.
Moyo restaurant in Kirstenbosch is situated in Cape Town’s botanical gardens, as you might be able to imagine, this offers plenty of space to run free and explore. Along with the aforementioned perks the food is fantastic!
Top Tip: The Summer Concerts are in full swing and also a fantastic was to enjoy an afternoon. Bring a picnic along and enjoy the music with the whole family. Check out the line up here.
If you live in the you probably know that this is one of the local favorites. With a fantastic kids lunch menu, pretty views overlooking strawberry fields and a wonderful play area for the kids, it’s always a winner.
Top Tip: Strawberry picking can be arranged across the road in Summer and on Saturday and Sunday the Root 44 market is running, offering another fun destination for the whole family.
Rain or shine, this place will always ensure a fun experience for the whole family. Kids and adults can enjoy the opportunity to creatively paint the ceramic of their choosing. When you combine that with a fabulous play area and cafe, you’ll just know you’re headed for a great day of fun and creativity.
This wine estate is just a treat! You may find yourself walking the beautiful gardens for hours, visit the homestead house museum, see the 300 year old Camphor trees, or just visit the Stables restaurant.
The Stables restaurant has a beautiful play ground with a small steam running through it and the back drop – the magnificent Helderberg mountains.
This place is targeted to children perfectly offering an enclosed area ( no escapees) with trampolines, bikes and a fantastic climbing castle.
Top Tip: Let your kids make their own pizzas for lunch!
Think leafy, think classy, I’m thinking Alphen Boutique Hotel. Along with the mouth-watering food, excellent service and stellar location the Blanco Restaurant provides kiddies entertainment every Sunday from 12:00pm – 4:00pm. Did somebody say “perfect Sunday lunch?”
I hope you find the suggestions helpful and find the time this summer to visit some new locations with the kids.
